Life Begins At The End Of Your Comfort Zone

What is the definition of “comfort zone”?

Webster’s dictionary defines it as the level at which one functions with ease and familiarity or a place, situation, or level where someone feels confident and comfortable.

What type of life are you living inside of your comfort zone? According to the above definition you are obviously comfortable and at ease. You are familiar with your surroundings and at ease with whatever situation you are in. That’s fine unless God has given you a vision. Having worked in Corporate America for over 30 years it was so easy to stay complacent knowing every two weeks you would get paid. During those years I saw dreams and visions die. I knew I could not become a statistic. I knew God had given me a unique task to perform and it could not be accomplished within the confines of Corporate America.

The year 2008 became the year of stepping out of my comfort zone and stepping into the zone of possibilities. For 12 years the reality of the vision God had given to me was only words written. I knew it was time to step out of my comfort zone. My trust was in God and I knew He would not fail me.

Points to think about:

If God has given you a vision there will become a time in your life when the decision must be made about stepping out of your comfort zone.

If God has given you a vision you will begin to see the possibilities.

If God has given you a vision He will open the doors you need to have opened.

If God has given you a vision you will truly understand that you can do ALL things through Christ.

Only with God will you find peace and contentment.

Write your vision and dare to believe it!

Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”

Robert Porter

I am a 26 year old young adult who can truly say I love the Lord with all of my heart, mind, body and soul.

Growing up in the church, I could not always say that. To be honest I sometimes took God for granted. As a child I was taught there was nothing too hard for God. Only believe all things are possible. It seemed as a child my prayers were always answered but as I got older my faith in God faded.

At the age of 16, I recorded a Gospel CD entitled “Make A Choice”. Now that I think about it, I was speaking about my life for the next 10 years.

A year ago I drove a soft top Jeep Wrangler. That jeep was my Church on wheels and my ministry tool for the young and old. I only played Gospel rap music through my custom built speakers. The lyrics of the songs were very clear and very loud. The music coming from the jeep opened doors to witness to others about the goodness of Jesus Christ. If they appeared interested I would give them one of my CD’s. I had that jeep for 6 years without a scratch on it.

However everything changed in September of 2010. On my way to work on a bright and sunny day, I hit a deer and lost control. The jeep flipped over so many times I lost count. All I could do was to hold on to my seat belt and call on the name of Jesus. After the flipping stopped, I was able to crawl out without any injuries except to my lower lip which was bleeding from where I bit down while flipping. I also noticed that if the jeep had continued to flip it would have taken a very deep drop before landing. Witnesses to the accident stopped to call the police. When the police arrived they thought I had become delirious because all I could say was “Thank you Jesus! Thank you Lord!” The jeep was totally destroyed but I knew there was a reason that my life had been spared. God had spared my life to serve Him in a greater way.

In the following weeks I knew I needed a fresh start in order to do what God wanted me to do. With no reservations I felt I needed to change churches. I had become stagnant and was not doing all that God wanted me to do. God not only wants us to be faithful in tithes and offering but He wants our time and talents as well. In my new church I did not hesitate when asked to start a male choir or to volunteer on the praise team or to come to 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning prayer or help clean the church. This was my reasonable service.

I have seen doors open that only God could have opened and favor from people that only God could have laid on their hearts. I was “blackballed” from my college theater department because I would not compromise what I believed. The plays were written with profanity and sex and I knew I could not do it. It was time for me to leave that college. God opened a door for me to attend a Christian college and complete my degree. They accepted all of my credits from the previous college. God is showing me favor everyday. It is a joy and blessing to pray before classes and to openly talk about the goodness of God with your professors.

Since my college was 2 hours away from my parents’ home, I needed a reliable vehicle. My prayers were answered one Saturday when I went car shopping. I had no money but I had faith that God would move on the heart of the salesman.

This was God’s timing!

The regional manager came up to me while I was talking to the salesman.

He said “I think we need to help this young man get into this jeep today. We need to put whatever tires on it that he wants.” The regional manager continued to say “I just came out here to get some keys, but I just feel we need to help this young man.”

All I could say was look at God! As soon as I signed my name to buy the jeep, three customers came by wanting to buy that same jeep. One of those customers had called because he had seen the jeep the previous day and was calling to make an offer.

I came home with a Mango/Tango 2010 4 door hard top Sahara Jeep. The salesman said that jeep had been sitting on the car lot since September 2010. That is the same month I wrecked my jeep. That was confirmation that God had my blessing waiting on me for a year.

Since that time, God has been working miracles for me. I was able to get a one bedroom apartment 7 miles from college even after I was told I did not qualify for the apartment and I was able to get a night job 10 miles from my apartment even though I was told there were no night jobs available. I saw God’s favor at work.

Points to leave with you:

God wants to bless us.

God’s Word is true. Just believe.

When God tells you to move, you need to move.

Don’t let fear stop you.

Strive to make God proud of your actions and decisions in life.

A true Christian walk is sometimes a lonely walk.

One man can make a difference, Jesus did!

DON’T GET IT TWISTED……..IT’S ALL GOD!!!!

Romans 12:1-2

The Message (MSG)

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life-and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

This month I am so honored to introduce an extremely talented and versatile young man by the name of Robert Porter. He is the son of my friends Floyd and Brenda Porter and the youngest of 3 children. Brenda wrote a powerful article in February of this year about trusting God. Click here to read it and be blessed. This is one powerful family that I am proud to know.

At the ripe old age of 26 Robert has accomplished more in his lifetime than most people twice his age. One thing really sets him apart. He has not compromised his Christian beliefs to accomplish what he wants.

The seeds for Robert’s career were planted as a child when he performed in the production of King of Glory, which was presented by Green Pastures Christian Ministries, Inc. Thanks to the commitment of Godly parents he never missed a curtain call during his 20 years of performances.

Robert has an extensive theater portfolio. Below is a list of his theater credits:

Soul Food

The Wiz

Cain & Able

When Sunday Comes

Slavery to Victory

Durang/Durang

The Taming of the Shrew

The Comedy of Errors

He won the lead in the short film “5 Lies of Sin” which was presented by BET and Chase Productions.

His versatility is not only in acting but also in music and sports. At the age of 16, he and his best friend Emmanuel became known as “N-Check” and produced their first Gospel CD. The ministry of N-Check allowed them to perform around the State of Georgia in youth prisons, public schools and churches.

While in the public school system he played basketball and varsity football. In his high school junior year the football team won the state championship. He received the MVP and Best Defensive Player awards for that year.

Robert has volunteered throughout the community not only in churches but also in nursing homes, Marines Toys for Tots, food banks, clothes banks and homeless shelters. This spirit of volunteering awarded him the Community Volunteer Award from 11 ALIVE News and Kohl’s Department Store for his years of community service.

Currently Robert is enrolled at Shorter Christian University where he is pursuing a degree in Theater and Mass Communications. He is working on a “soon to be released” Gospel CD project entitled “Metaphories” featuring the single “You Don’t Know Me”.

I pray that the following testimony from Robert not only encourages you but ignites a fire under you to do what God has called you to do.

1-5God spoke to Moses: “See what I’ve done; I’ve personally chosen Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur of the tribe of Judah. I’ve filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him skill and know-how and expertise in every kind of craft to create designs and work in gold, silver, and bronze; to cut and set gemstones; to carve wood-he’s an all-around craftsman.

6 “Not only that, but I’ve given him Oholiab, son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan, to work with him. And to all who have an aptitude for crafts I’ve given the skills to make all the things I’ve commanded you:

How often has someone told you to “stay in your lane”? For me? A lot. But there is substance behind those words. When Moses was given instructions to build the tabernacle, God provided everything that would be needed.

God’s provisions:

Skilled labor – Bezalel was personally chosen by God. Not only that but God filled him with His Spirit, gave him the skill and know-how and expertise to do the job.

Bezalel knew what lane he was in. He did not try to get in another lane. The name of his lane was “craftsman drive”.

God provided help for the craftsman – Oholiab had a lane as well. The name of his lane was “craftsman’s assistant terrace”.

Finally, God provided the “workforce behind Bezalel and Oholiab”. These workers had the aptitude (natural ability) but God provided the skills to make it happen. The name of their lane? “Help make it happen Lane”.

Summing it all up:

If you have found yourself struggling with the vision God has given to you check your lane.

Stay in Your Lane Nuggets:

You must know that you have been personally chosen by God to complete the task before you.

You have already been given the wisdom, skill, know-how and expertise by God to do it.

He will provide who and what you will need to get it done.

The task will get done as long as you stay in your lane.

As the school year came to an end, two of the four began making preparation for graduation. There was a sense of excitement for the unknown.

This is an excerpt from the student who was chosen to give the graduation speech:

“Do not be defined by the constraints of what others say is normal. Why should we fit in when we were born to stand out? Follow your passion. Live big and dream bigger. You need to have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. Everything else is secondary.”

Then she quoted a small portion of Dr. Seuss from Oh! The Places You’ll Go!

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

So be sure when you step, step with care and great tact

And remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act.

And will you succeed?

Yes! You will, indeed!

And that’s 100% guaranteed.

Note:

Although Dr. Seuss wrote that your success was 98 and ¾ guaranteed the student giving the speech chose to say 100%.

God’s Word

Joshua 1:1-9 (MSG)

1-9 After the death of Moses the servant of God, God spoke to Joshua, Moses’ assistant:

”Moses my servant is dead. Get going. Cross this Jordan River, you and all the people. Cross to the country I’m giving to the People of Israel. I’m giving you every square inch of the land you set your foot on-just as I promised Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon east to the Great River, the Euphrates River-all the Hittite country-and then west to the Great Sea. It’s all yours. All your life, no one will be able to hold out against you. In the same way I was with Moses, I’ll be with you. I won’t give up on you; I won’t leave you. Strength! Courage! You are going to lead this people to inherit the land that I promised to give their ancestors. Give it everything you have, heart and soul. Make sure you carry out The Revelation that Moses commanded you, every bit of it. Don’t get off track, either left or right, so as to make sure you get to where you’re going. And don’t for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you’ll get where you’re going; then you’ll succeed. Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.”

Summing it all up:

God has given all of us a unique task to complete for His Glory. Some of us will accept this task and go forward in faith while others will place it on the back burner until everything else falls into place. As the student was speaking from the works of Dr. Seuss, I could hear God saying:

You want success?

Get going!

I won’t give up on you.

I won’t leave you.

Give it everything you have, heart and soul.

Don’t get off track.

Meditate on My Word.

Don’t be timid.

Don’t get discouraged.

I’m with you every step you take.

You want success?

Follow what I tell you.

This is how you will get it.

He had no money, no transportation and no idea how any of this was going to take place. The one thing he had was God’s assurance that God had called him and God would make the way.

Take note. God would make “THE” way. Normally you might hear the phrase God can make “A” way but reading this I saw God would make “THE” way.

When God calls you to do something that might seem impossible, remember that when He calls He also equips. When He calls He has “THE” way mapped out.

Micah 6:6-8

New International Version (NIV)

6 With what shall I come before the LORD and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?

7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Your alarm goes off. Coffee is ready. You prepare for another day! Does this sound too familiar. Maybe your morning rituals are a little different but the endgame is the same. You want to put on your best.

We’ve all been told to put our best foot forward. But sometimes I must admit I can have two left feet. So which foot is my best?

According to Micah 6:8, we are required to act justly and to love

mercy and to walk humbly with God but can you truly say this is what you are doing?

I read a passage from Our Daily Bread entitled The Good Life. The author wrote about a man named Roy who died and at his funeral the people spoke of his kindness, selfless giving, humility, and gentle compassion. He was, for many, a visible expression of God’s unconditional love.

Can people say this of you now? What is your visible expression? If God loves us unconditionally then why do we place conditions on showing our love to others?

Is your visible expression that of anger, sadness, greed, pride, hate, impatience and no compassion? What about at the gas station? Are you smiling or are you grumbling like everyone around you?

Take a long look in the proverbial mirror next time you get in a disagreement with someone. What will you see? What will they see?

Personal note:

God has given all of us a unique task for His glory. God has specifically chosen you to be His arms, legs, feet, mouth, and eyes. Our visible expression should reflect all of God’s characteristics.

Exodus 35:30-35 New Living Translation:

30 Then Moses told the people of Israel, “The Lord has specifically chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 31 The Lord has filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. 32 He is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze. 33 He is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft. 34 And the Lord has given both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach their skills to others. 35 The Lord has given them special skills as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple, and scarlet thread on fine linen cloth, and weavers. They excel as craftsmen and as designers.

Summing it all up:

The Lord has chosen you, filled you and given you special skills. Be that visible expression of God’s unconditional love!

Michelle Duggar of the 19 Kids and Counting series was asked why she always appeared to have so much joy?

Her response:

J is for Jesus

O is for others

Y is for yourself

If you operate in this order putting Jesus first, Others next and Yourself last you will always have JOY!

Isaiah 43:16-21

The Message (MSG)

16-21This is what God says, the God who builds a road right through the ocean, who carves a path through pounding waves,The God who summons horses and chariots and armies - they lie down and then can’t get up; they’re snuffed out like so many candles: “Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it?There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.Wild animals will say ‘Thank you!’ -the coyotes and the buzzards- Because I provided water in the desert, rivers through the sun-baked earth, Drinking water for the people I chose, the people I made especially for myself, a people custom-made to praise me.”

Episode Synopsis: Warehouse 13

In this episode the agents were given a mission to find “Warehouse 2″ not knowing that another entity was trying to prevent their discovery. They were almost destroyed when they were confronted with past events in their lives. This entity knew if it could keep them focused on the past where they were happier they would not move forward. Their emotions were so overwhelming that their physical bodies stopped moving. The ground around them almost consumed them until one person realized something was wrong and she was able to snap the others back to reality where they were able to complete the journey.

Personal note:

Staying focused on the past will keep you from moving forward to your destiny. It would be so easy to stay where you are. It’s called your “comfort zone”. So you made a few mistakes in the past. So your life is not where it was a few years ago. So you don’t have enough money in the bank. So you thought your job was secure. So you thought your life was perfect. So you thought you would be out of that apartment. So so so so… The past has paralyzed you.

Isaiah 55:8 New Living Translation:

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.”

Summing it all up:

FORGET ABOUT WHAT’S HAPPENED; DON’T KEEP GOING OVER OLD HISTORY. GOD IS GETTING READY TO DO SOMETHING NEW IN YOUR LIFE! SAY YES TO GOD!

Right then I heard God say, “If I will provide for this Grizzly what more will I do for you?”

The Grizzly got into position to be blessed. Once in position he stood, waited and received.

“What you see and what you hear depends a great deal on where you are standing…”. C.S. Lewis (The Magician’s Nephew)

Where are you standing? Are you standing where God wants you to stand? Are you in position to receive all of what God wants you to have? Can you see God has made a way for you?

Often times we will look at everything and everyone for assistance. Our conversations with God usually begin with the words “how”, “if”, and “when”.

Has God told you to do something and you haven’t because you don’t know “how” He will accomplish it?

Has God told you to say something and you haven’t because you don’t know “if” they are the right words to say?

Has God told you to trust Him and you haven’t because you don’t know “when” the answer will come?

Matthew 6:27-34 (MSG Bible)

27-29“Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion-do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

The Grizzly bear has no worries. He stands in position to receive.

30-33“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers-most of which are never even seen-don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

The Grizzly bear has no worries. He stands in position to receive.

34“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

The Grizzly bear has no worries. He stands in position to receive.

God loves you so much more than the Grizzly bear!

DON’T YOU KNOW IF HE PROVIDED FOR THE GRIZZLY BEAR WHAT MORE WILL HE DO FOR YOU!

How do we consistently embrace God’s simple, enlightened life lessons? What divine directions does the Holy Spirit give to each of us? Let us explore the inner workings of life lessons.

Early morning, I arise and begin to wonder about many things. Trying to avoid “pit patting” about the house, I quiet my anxious heart. The Holy silence captivates my soul as I peacefully breathe in God’s brand new day. His pupil is ready to seek a course of sacred instructions. It is an educational dialogue with the God of salvation about why, who, when, or what the life’s day will present. Time to embrace a service of sweet worship.

David prayed, “God teach me lessons for living so I can stay the course.” {Psalm 119:33, The Message Bible}. Spiritual life lessons are composed of truths birthed from a relationship with God and from experiences with Him. These principles and insights taught and learned about God, relationships, problems, temptations, success, and every aspect of life greatly support our ability to walk in faith and victory. It is difficult in our own strength. So, we must learn God’s ways and make it stick. Begin to recognize and maintain the Holy Spirit’s life lessons. Your God-designed heart will thrive.

December 12, 2009, I broke both wrists and dislocated the left wrist. The medical x-rays revealed that my bones were now the consistency of oatmeal. “God, I cannot fix this,” was my first heart’s cry. I acknowledged my severe weakness and the glaring facts that physically I could do absolutely nothing about the quality of my life. During this testing of God, I grasped a renewed wisdom; an in-my-face awareness of things I thought I knew prior to the tennis accident but divinely did not know as you can read below:

Wrists are a vital part of the body.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14.

I faithfully learned to live during a season of listening and humility in Abba Father’s love, teachings, and healing care.

My husband’s agape love dramatically rose up within him as a mighty man of valor and priest of our home.

The effectual fervent prayers of the righteous availeth much, James 5:16.

I gratefully observed the helpers, visitors, cooks and the various Green Pastures Christian ministries the Lord timely brought into my life.

The power of personal prayer, praise, and worship wrought miracles.

Holy Scriptures are rivers of life that I recalled for times of refreshing.

God is mighty to save.

God healed and made me whole without surgery. The good Lord gave me new bones. Upon my initial return to tennis, the Decatur Divas won the Division Championship by 1 point from the winning match that I played. Divine Redemption! God gave me keener tennis skills and I learned not to go backwards.

Life Lesson: God’s children are not designed to go backwards or live in the past. Our spiritual DNA mandates moving forward to Advance the Kingdom of God.

Please be encouraged. Always seek the Wonderful Counselor’s divine plans, messages, and thoughts for life lessons. The Lord Jesus came to His people on earth to impart radical knowledge and demonstrate miraculous skills. He is the Teacher of teachers. The Pupil of pupils. When we operate in the strength of the Lord Jesus Christ, we live a very smart life. Creatively love mastering the commitment to obediently follow God’s commands. High-spirited rewards exist – a whole life of one long obedient response, “Yes Lord.” A Christian life clearly booming with discipline, patience, joy, peace, healing, faithfulness, love, steadfastness, forgiveness, beauty, mercy, and favorable privileges.

Hallelujah!
